I don't know about you, but I was once a huge fan of the Resident Evil series, and that love as since soured with unfocused titles, diluting the brand with shit spinoff's and in general Capcom forgetting what the hell survival horror was as a genre. So you can imagine when I read over on Polygon that the company would be focusing on VR titles, I almost laid an egg.
While I'm excited to get a Resident Evil 2 remake out of the studio and I hope it will be great, I actually have very little faith it will be. Furthermore, what the hell is Jun Takeuchi talking about when he says that VR is "the hottest market right now".
Last I checked, no mainstream consumer has even had the chance to try a VR unit, let along purchase one. While I personally see the virtues of the hardware, this is just market speculation and investment on what could otherwise end up being a hardcore niche.
I completely understand many publishers want to be the first or only place to have a "killer app" for VR, if you can be there early, you're almost guaranteed to be the software everyone buys when they buy the hardware, and you could stay the thing being talked about for a long time, but when the rudder of the ship is as wrong as it seems to be over at Capcom, shouldn't they worry about just making good software for the platforms they've been on for decades?
